MY ROLE
A product designer on the team leading the UX and UI efforts using PowerBI and collaborating with the senior product designer on navigation.
MY TEAM
One product manager, one software engineer, one data analyst, and one QA.
TIMELINE
Across three phases: Jan - Aug 2024
Project background
Allocator Hub is a newly developed analysis platform designed to provide Limited Partnerships (LPs) with data and tools that support their entire investment process while generating new revenue for Preqin.
In 2023, my team dedicated the year to extensive research to validate the direction of the platform. In 2024, we begin development and launch a beta version to select clients for continuous product improvement.
Business Challenges We Face
1. Limited Resources – Our team was comprised of just one product manager, one engineer, and one product designer.
2. Complex Product – Based on the 2023 research, users had a strong demand for an Investment Due Diligence (IDD) tool, which was highly anticipated and complex. It became the first product within the Allocator Hub.
3. Need for Flexibility - Since the IDD tool was a new concept in the market, we needed to ensure the development approach was flexible enough to allow us to pivot as needed.
So, we decided to develop the tool using PowerBI and embed it as an iframe within the Allocator Hub.

Design challenges
1. Despite PowerBI's significant limitations, I need to ensure the design aligns as closely as possible with our design system, maintaining consistency with other Preqin products.
2. Ensure the design is intuitive and provides a seamless user experience.
3. Create a professional, polished look to instill confidence in users, ensuring they don't lose trust in the product due to PowerBI.
Idea exploration

Phase 1 design

Phase 2 design
(Mimic Preqin's side navigation panel in Power Bi to keep consistency)
Following the design launch, designers across various teams and business units have adopted my work as the foundation for the PowerBI design library, applying it to their own projects.

Phase 3 design
(Double side navigation panel & Top navigation bar to go back to Preqin main product)
As the Allocator Hub expanded with new tools, its information architecture grew more complex. I worked with another product designer to develop a better navigation solution that impacted both our projects.

Outcomes
- We’ve achieved over a 600% increase in the number of clients who have subscribed to Allocator Hub!👏🏻
- Before the design release, the contract value to Allocaoter Hub was 26% average; now, we have deals with the contract value growth up to 85% - 100%! ⭐️
A few contracts have reached 100% value, demonstrating that clients subscribe to Preqin products solely driven by Allocator Hub.
- Very positive feedback from clients and Head of Business👍
